REQUIREMENTS TO ACQUIRE A PEPPER SPRAY PERMIT

Eligibility:

  • Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older.
  • Legal Status: Must not be a prohibited person according to the Firearms Act Chapter 16:01. This includes:
    • No criminal record.
    • Not under investigation for any offense listed in the law.
    • Law-abiding citizen.

Required Documents:

  1. Two Forms of Picture ID:
    • Options include Driver’s Permit, National ID card, or Passport.
  2. Proof of Address:
    • Utility bill, bank statement, or any official document showing the current address.
  3. Passport Photo:
    • Recent photo meeting passport specifications.
  4. Contact Information:
    • Phone number and email address.

Application Process:

  1. Online Application:
    • Access the electronic application form via the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service (TTPS) website: https://www.ttps.gov.tt/Services/Pepper-Spray-Application.
  2. Completing the Application:
    • Fill out the form online.
    • Upload all required documents as directed in the form.
  3. Confirmation and Fingerprinting:
    • Upon completion, the applicant will receive a confirmation email with a confirmation number.
    • Follow the instructions in the confirmation email to visit a police station for fingerprinting.
  4. Payment:
    • Pay TT$ 100.00 at the police station.
    • Receive a pepper spray receipt for the payment (Note: This is not a Certificate of Character (COC) receipt).
  5. Uploading Payment Receipt:
    • Use the log-in information and instructions provided in the confirmation email to upload the pepper spray receipt.
